There are ten principles that must be followed to receive FSC forest management certification. For FSC forest management certification any managers of certified forests must:

- establish a management plan that outlines their economic, environmental, and social policies and objectives;

- ensure that all management activities comply with FSC principles and criteria.
For FSC chain of custody certificate, companies are required to implement the following FSC core labour requirements in their operations and must be able to demonstrate this to external third-party auditors. The company must:
